Ladies, how do we guys know if it's OK with you for us to put our arm around you in the movies?

I mean, if a guy asks you out on a date and you accept, is it too much to expect to be able to put an arm around you? I'm a big, fat guy and, frankly, I'm not trying to get "fresh" but just trying to be comfortable. It's not like I'm trying to cop a grope...
